. the nfl season ended badly for the washington redskins. that is the understatement of the century. their playoff loss to seattle, not even the worst of it. what happened? well, the redskins, 14 points, they scored 24 straight points to beat the redskins. 27 yard run for marchand lynch. the really bad news, i'm talking the awful, epochically tragic news. you're seeing it here, rg 3, the superstar rookie quarterback for the redskins re-injured his knee in the game. no one even touched him. there's no word on the extent of the injury. clearly not pretty. you heard it again in the first quarter. a lot of people asking why coach mike shanahan did not pull him out in the first quarter. he was completely ineffective after he started limping. so many questions today. oh, yeah, by the way, seattle won and they will play atlanta next weekend. >>> all right. the baltimore ravens are also moving on in the afc playoffs. they beat the indianapolis colts 24-9 on sunday. it was the last home game for the soon to be retired ray lewis. joe flacco threw down two touchdown passes including one to ant

'm in the minority but i believe that in the nfl if a player and the coach get together and decide, you know, what we're going to do here regarding injury and keep him in the game, keep him in the game. >> he's a 22-year-old rookie. the coach has 30, 40 years experience coaching. up to the coach to say, hey, i don't think that you can play this game and putting in kurt cousins and maybe we'll win. >> this isn't the high school regionals. this is the nfl playoffs. they know their bodies. 90% of the players on that field for both are injured at this point. you play through injury. i don't have a problem with him gutting it out. he came in hurt already and they felt that he was a better option than the backup quarterback to try to win the game. did it play out that way? it didn't and ended like this. there are a lot of factors involved not the least of which is that turf coming loose under his feet. you think they have enough money to fix it. >> we don't know the extent. he'll have an mri on monday but i think it's an absolute gis grace that a nfl playoff game on a field that looks like that. dirt that'

in the divisional playoffs. today's game would determine the rest of the nfl's elite red. hosting the seahawks. winner plays atlanta next week. redskins got off to a great start. robert griffin iii to logan paulson washes up to 14-0, blue seahawks scored 24 unanswered points. there goes marshawn lynch. 27 yards out. seattle, they win, lynch rushes for 132 yards. griffin iii played with an injured ankle. later in the 4th his knee buckled out a fumble. he had to leave the game 24-14 is the final. and so seattle goes on to face the falcons. >>> and with railways last home game turned out to be -- and with ray lewis, last home game turned out to be his final one. a tough debut. locked out by mcphee recovering the ball. luck turned it over twice. 4th quarter baltimore leading 17-9. and joe flacco connects. they will go to denver next saturday and louis got to do that dance. one last time for the home fans. they're still alive. coming up on game day, more on the nhl and that workshop jam. we'll go to green bay and a report on what's happening with the packers. how they plan to defeat the 49ers. >> t

about sports and sports injuries. in the nfl especially. remember junior seau last year who took his own life. he shot himself in the chest because he wanted his brain to be studied. the doctors looked at his brain and told the family and they report this morning that his brain did test positive for chronic traumatic encephalopathy or cte repeated blows to the head and head injuries that can lead to dementia, memory loss. it is a problem that's plagued a lot of former nfl players. this is the issue that the nfl has to address when we talk about helmet to helmet blows and the sort of violent nature of the nfl. >> bill: so much evidence of this. i think dave zirin told us there are 9,000 lawsuits. phenomenal number. >> peter: one big lawsuit with several former players injuries lead -- brain injuries are leading to major problems. which leads us to this story. virginia commonwealth university did a study and looked at how we, as a nation, are doing in the health department. >> bill: this is stunning. >> peter: turns out we're not doing so great. americans die sooner and experience higher r
